Key details Shanghai endured economic loss during the lockdown period, as China went against the global consensus that COVID-19 cannot be decisively defeated and introduced a zero-tolerance policy to end outbreaks, Reuters reported.
Life did not fully return to the pre-COVID normal, amid residents' wariness that the pandemic with its restrictions may return. Over half a million people of the 25 million city dwellers are still under a lockdown or in designated control zones as virus cases are still being detected, according to a Bloomberg report.
