EmergeVest welcomed 24 students and two faculty members from the University of Virginia (UVA) to its Hong Kong office as part of Prof. Robert I. Webb’s January-term course, “Asian Financial Capitals: Hong Kong and Singapore”. The course immerses students in the financial ecosystems of two major Asian hubs through executive meetings, company visits, and discussions on cross-border business.
Led by EmergeVest Managing Director and UVA alumnus Lawrence J. Lim, the session offered students a behind-the-scenes perspective on private equity’s role in shaping global markets and driving sustainable growth.
The dialogue touched on EmergeVest’s investment philosophy of “connecting Asia and the West”, its strategic focus on business services, global supply chain, and logistics, as well as its perspective on Hong Kong’s evolving role as a pivotal international financial centre. The discussion also explored how private equity firms create value through innovation, operational excellence, and long-term vision.
Students, many aspiring to careers in private equity, investment banking, and wealth management actively engaged with thoughtful questions about EmergeVest’s strategies, portfolio initiatives and approach to growth investments.
Reflecting on the event, Lawrence Lim shared:
“It’s always inspiring to connect with the next generation of financial leaders. Their curiosity, drive, and willingness to step outside their comfort zones remind us of the value of fostering fresh perspectives in an ever-evolving industry. It was also a meaningful way to give back to the UVA community and to underscore Hong Kong’s uniqueness as a global financial hub.”
Following the discussion, students toured EmergeVest’s office and experienced firsthand the collaborative, innovative environment that defines the firm’s approach to investment and growth.
EmergeVest extends heartfelt thanks to the UVA students and faculty for their enthusiasm and participation, and to Lawrence J. Lim for leading such an engaging and impactful session. EmergeVest remains committed to cultivating a culture of learning, curiosity and innovation.
